Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is CyberStitchers?

CyberStitchers is the first online chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA). Chartered in March 2000, we have members from around the globe. CyberStitchers is a full-fledged EGA chapter whose members receive all EGA benefits.

What do we do?

CyberStitchers does everything a local face-to-face chapter does except serve cookies and punch at meetings. We talk about embroidery, share projects and advice, give out door prizes, organize group correspondence courses, host education events, do outreach projects, and offer free projects and handouts.

What if I’m not sure I want to be a member?

Then be our guest. You can be our guest for thirty days while you look around at our group, receive messages posted by members and see what we have to offer. To visit our chapter as a guest, email our membership chair.

Do I need to be a member of EGA?

All members of CyberStitchers are EGA members. If you’re not already an EGA member, you don’t need to join it separately before you can join CyberStitchers. When you join CyberStitchers as a primary member, your dues will include membership in EGA.

When are the meetings?

We meet during the odd-numbered months of the year (January, March, May, July, September, and November). The meetings begin on the second Thursday of the month and end on the following Tuesday.

Meetings are run from our Groups.io site. You can read the meeting messages on the Groups.io site or receive them as email. It’s just like being in a face-to-face chapter but from the comfort of your own home.

What happens outside meetings?

Our members talk and exchange ideas over an email chat list outside meetings. Our online classes each have their own chat lists too.

Can I belong to my local chapter and CyberStitchers?

Sure! That’s called plural membership. Many of our members also belong to a face-to-face EGA chapter. They enjoy their local chapter while also joining CyberStitchers for its online community and benefits. CyberStitchers often offers correspondence courses, Petite Projects, and other activities that their local chapter might not offer.

How much is membership?

The EGA membership year runs from June 1st to May 31st. Members who join later in the year pay a prorated amount upon joining, and then pay the full amount during the annual renewal period the following April.

Dues depend on your membership category—either a primary or a plural member of CyberStitchers. Membership includes a subscription to Needle Arts Magazine and membership in the Tennessee Valley Region of EGA. See the detailed information about membership dues.

  • Primary members: Primary members are those whose main or only chapter membership is with CyberStitchers. They pay $64 per year.
  • Plural members: Plural members belong to both CyberStitchers and another chapter that is their main chapter. They pay $12 per year if their primary chapter is in the Tennessee Valley Region, or $15 per year if their primary chapter is in another region.

If you live outside the United States, there’s an additional postage fee.
